General Motors, which yesterday filed for bankruptcy protection, says it has reached an understanding with a buyer to sell its Hummer brand. The sale is not expected to take place until the third quarter of this year and is subject to a number of conditions.

Following yesterday’s turmoil – when the motor giant became the biggest industrial bankruptcy in the USA just a month after Chrysler’s similar move for bankruptcy protection – GM say the deal is expected to secure more than 3,000 US jobs.

GM, one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, was founded in 1908. It manufactures cars and trucks in 34 countries with a worldwide employment total of 235,000 in some 140 countries.
