Toyota has unveiled a new rally car that will have its debut on the ADAC Rallye Deutschland which starts on September 11. The Toyota GT86 CS-R3 will not be competing in the event, but will be running as a course car, ahead of the field.
Toyota say the decision to develop a car for rallying fits in with their move to put the fun back into motoring and to support motorsport. In keeping with that theme, although the new car will have its first outing on a WRC even, Toyota say the finished car will be available as a cost-effective competition model for private customers.
Driving the new car will be Isolde Holderied, a double women’s world rally champion, and she will be evaluating the performance to make final adjustments to the design before it is homologated for international R3 competition criteria.
The Toyota GT86 CS-R3 is rear-wheel-drive, with its two-litre, four-cylinder engine putting out about 240 to 250 bhp. It is fitted with a six-speed sequential gearbox.
